OFFICE ETIQUETTE

We are all familiar with most of the Office Etiquette Principles.  Below is a short summary to emphasise the significance thereof:

  1. First and foremost:  Attitude matters most

A winning attitude goes a long way.  The right attitude will give you the perseverance to pursue the goal until you succeed.

Be careful of “toxic thoughts”, referring to the negative thoughts that gives us a negative attitude.  Take control of your thoughts.  Attitude + Emotions = Behaviour

  1. Business Etiquette – It means:
  • Building good relationships, external and internal
  • Respecting others
  • Listening to others
  • Conducting yourself respectfully
  • Not acting in a way that makes others feel uncomfortable
  • Be considerate and honest
  1. Golden rule: 

Do not do unto others, that you don’t want to be done unto you…

  1. Dress for success!  It includes:
  • Grooming, standard of neatness, business casual/professional wear
  • The first thought that comes to mind in the morning when standing in front of the mirror, for e.g. “No, this is too tight” or “this is too revealing” or “this is too short” or “this is not ironed” – is usually the thought that could save YOU the embarrassment, as well as the embarrassment to the company.

Remember, you are an ambassador of the Company you work for

  1. Rules for open-plan offices:
  • Don’t speak too loud over the phone
  • Keep your desk and surrounding area clean
  • Switch your cell-phone’s ringtone off
  • Avoid constant group meetings and quick “chit-chats”
  • Leave the smelly leftovers at home, or eat in the area provided
  1. Social Media:
  • ALWAYS be careful with what you post or comment on social media, as you are a representative of your Company and what you say or “like” could lead to serious implications in the long-run.
  • You might just by mistake send a private message/picture to the public!  Thus, be cautious.
